Staff from ARA are currently at RUAG’s wind-tunnel test facility in Emmen, Switzerland as part of a European CleanSky2 project, TRUflow. This project involves testing a model of a Thrust Reverser in order to develop novel simulation and visualisation methods. The two week wind-tunnel test campaign at the Large Subsonic Wind-tunnel in Emmen (LTWE) is the culmination of three years of hard work by three teams from ARA, the University of Manchester and RUAG itself.
ARA in conjunction with the University of Bristol have an exciting opportunity for an Aerospace Testing Development Engineer. The role is focussed on the development and understanding of flexible wind tunnel models for potential aero elastic testing programmes. Through the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme, the successful candidate will be based at ARA in Bedford, but employed by the University. This enables links to both the industrial and academic knowledge bases. ARA was saddened to learn of the death of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip was the longest serving Royal Consort in history and his loss will be felt deeply by Her Majesty the Queen, the Royal Family and the Nation.
Prince Philip was a great advocate for British engineering, science and technology and visited ARA twice. In 1956 he officially opened ARA for business following its conception and construction over the previous 4 years. With his lifelong passion for innovation he returned again in 2002 to commemorate ARA’s 50th anniversary.
