HR Manager

Reporting to the CEO, the role of the HR Manager is responsible for providing a comprehensive generalist HR service to the business – looking after the full employee lifecycle including recruitment, succession planning, ER issues, learning and development, reward and recognition, organisational development and design and proactive project work. 
 
Managing a small team (HR/Admin & Security) the role is a mix of hands on delivery and more long term planning - developing the function in line with the needs of the business. As a member of the senior management team you will be supporting Team Leaders/Managers on the full range of HR issues and identifying and driving HR projects and management reporting.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide direction, support and challenge to the senior management team and their reports on all HR matters and promoting positive working practices across all areas to ensure best practise and consistency of approach.
  • Managing the selection, recruitment and on boarding of employees (including vetting of employees in line with security requirements) 
  • Manage the effective delivery of a timely and accurate outsourced payroll service (outsourced processing & payments) and dealing with queries as required. 
  • Leading on key HR initiatives including reviewing (creating and amending) policies and procedures, supporting the appraisal process, training and development. 
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of HR systems and practices including enhancing use of the current HR System. 
  • Manage the training budget to ensure training needs are met in an effective, cost efficient manner and within budgetary restraints (including technical, managerial skills and mandatory H&S related). 
  • Managing and negotiating employee benefits and services provided by ARA, e.g. private healthcare, EAP, contributory pension scheme etc. 
  • As with any SME needs to be willing and flexible to undertake other related tasks as required by the business.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

  • A robust HR generalist who takes ownership, leading by example with experience of a busy commercial organisation. 
  • Able to think strategically and implement operationally. Ultimately you will be confident in all things HR, a strong communicator, coach and relationship builder with the ability to work through complex and conflicting priorities. 
  • Someone who is proactive and pragmatic with a strong knowledge of UK employment law and how to apply it to real life situations. You will ideally have CIPD level 7 and/or equivalent experience in a senior HR role. 
  • Resilient - able to work with pace and remain calm and patient under pressure whilst working through complex and conflicting priorities. 
  • Strong attention to detail is essential with a keen eye for improvement. 
  • Confident communication skills; verbal and written and well developed listening skills and the ability to influence and negotiate outcomes. 
  • Numerate with organisational skills, including time management, able to prioritise and multitask 
  • Managing an outsourced payroll experience essential.

Desirable: 

  • Experience across a range of commercial sectors including sales and project driven environments 
  • Experience of broad range of workforce disciplines including technical, engineering, scientific and/or professional.
  • Mediation experience would be useful.
