Finance Accountant (FTC)
Aircraft Research Association (ARA) is a unique SME and the UK’s leading independent transonic wind tunnel with a passionate workforce of engineering and aerodynamic professionals. We are a leading specialist in aerodynamic research providing complementary services and solutions to international aerospace and defence clients. Our clients include Saab, Bombardier, Boeing, Turkish Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, Airbus, Comac and BAE Systems.
Typical projects include producing scaled-down military and civilian aircraft models, comprising multiple parts, which are assembled together and used as highly accurate forces/pressures measuring devices within the on-site high-speed (transonic) wind tunnel.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Project Accountant to join our ARA team on a fixed term contract of 9 to 12 months, reporting to the Finance Business Partner. You will work closely with the current finance team and wider group finance team as well as Head of Project Management and Head of Finance in providing accurate and timely information to support high quality decision making and help to develop and enhance internal reporting processes.
Salary: £45-50K per annum, depending upon experience
Typical Hours: Full-time, 38 hours
This is a varied and demanding role and involves a number of duties and responsibilities including
- Generate all necessary internal project analysis to support business decisions
- Support the implementation of SAP4Hana in 2025
- Month-end financial accounting and overhead reporting and costing analysis
- Support annual budget process and 5-year business plan
- Support quarterly business review of project profitability
- Preparation of Government national statistics returns
- Work with group tax to support VAT, Tax and internal research development returns
- Assist with developing and creating robust grant reporting systems
- Assist in half year and year end audit process
- Support treasury activities
- Assist in the development and creation of improved internal reporting systems
What we are looking for in you
- Newly qualified accountant ACMA/ACCA
- Advanced excel knowledge including modelling and forecasting
- Knowledge of IFRS 15 Revenue recognition
- Knowledge of SAP4Hana an advantage
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
- Team player, able to work to tight deadlines with a creative attitude to problem solving
- Strong analytical and communication skills and able to work closely with business stakeholders
The successful candidate must satisfy security clearance requirements – including the last 5 years continual UK residency.
