Test Capabilities

Since its’ establishment, the ARA Experimental Aerodynamics Department has been at the forefront of developing wind tunnel test capabilities to meet the technically challenging requirements posed by the ever evolving aerospace industry; both for Civil Aircraft and Business Jets and  Military Aircraft and Stores. These challenges have been wide and varied:

  • Achievement of drag repeatability to within one drag count for different test entries of a civil aircraft
  • Simulation of the release of a fuel tank from a fighter aircraft
  • Measurement of the effects of detailed geometic changes on rear fuselage and empennage flow fields
  • Accurate representation of the effects of an installed propeller
  • Efficient measurement of dynamic data in a military aircraft engine inlet
  • The use of roughness bands to simulate higher Reynolds number flows
  • Data acquisition at faster speeds, offering seamless integration of customer supplied code and programs into the ARA data processing suite

On each occasion, ARA has risen to the challenge to deliver our Customer’s requirements in full using a combination of: innovation, determination to have a thorough understanding of the simulation capability being developed and a unified pride and hard work ethic.
