Beta Polar

This animation shows the model moving through a “beta” or yaw polar controlled by the automatic model movement control system. The different yaw positions relative to the oncoming airflow are achieved with a combination of pitch and roll. The sliding support strut is designed so that the model remains in the centre of the tunnel.

The ARA online data display system allows the customer and the ARA test engineers to monitor the measured data in real time as shown above. The data can also be compared with data measured during previous tunnel runs and previous tunnel tests which allows the customer to make immediate decisions regarding the test program.
