West Drive Residential Home
On the 13th May 2010, 3 members of the ARA Charities Committee visited West Drive Residential Home, Arlesey, Beds.
West Drive is a small residential home for up to 10 young people who suffer from Autism with complex needs. It has a total of 15 staff who cover a 24-hour period daily.
We were welcomed by Debbie Martin, Senior Care Worker (pictured right with Kieron Rentle and Pete Ogilvie, two members of the ARA Charities Committee), who talked to us about the work of the home and showed us around. We saw two rooms that needed refurbishment and where we could possibly help.
One room needed decorating, refurbishing and lighting put into it so the young people had somewhere to go and relax and listen to music, in comfortable surroundings.
Outside the main facilities there is a detached building which houses a pool table and other games. Pete Ogilvie immediately saw an opportunity to assist as well as giving his Engineering Team the opportunity to use and enhance their skills on a community focused project.
We look forward to helping West Drive Residential Home and would like to thank Debbie Martin and her colleagues for their hospitality on our visit.
