Computational Fluid Dynamics

Solution from DLR Tau solver on a mesh generated using SOLAR

The Computational Aerodynamics team has a world class reputation in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) gained from over 30 years of experience developing and applying bespoke and commercial software to solve highly complex aerodynamic problems.

Proven in-house expertise coupled with close collaborations with industrial partners, research establishments and academia enables us to provide high quality solutions to meet our customers' needs in aerodynamic design and performance assessment.

Our focus is on providing improved solution accuracy within cost-effective processes allowing the balance between CFD and wind-tunnel testing to be optimised, leading to shorter and cheaper development cycles.

Our strength lies in our ability to provide both highly skilled CFD developers and knowledgable applications experts in the same team, with an in-depth understanding of aerodynamics.  This enables us to tackle some of the most challenging applications, and our problem-solving skills give us the edge in providing rapid-response support and consultancy.

We offer a full range of services including:

Collaboration

ARA is a partner within a £17.4m 3-year Airbus-led collaborative research project, part-funded through the DTI Technology Programme, aimed at transforming design processes for aerospace, marine and automotive industries through the use of innovative computer-based simulation systems. For more information, please visit the CFMS web site.

ARA was recently recognised as part of an Airbus Award for Excellence in Innovation. The award was for the SOLAR/Tau hybrid CFD capability and ARA and DLR were recognised for their joint development work.
