European Wind Tunnel Association

The European Windtunnel Association (EWA) was formed in 2004 to promote co-operation and collaboration between the major European aerospace wind tunnel operators as part of the European Community Framework 6 programme.
The members of the Association are:
ARA (UK), Airbus, BAE Systems (UK), CIRA (Italy), DLR (Germany),
DNW (Netherlands), ETW (Germany), FOI (Sweden), NLR (Netherlands),
ONERA (France), QinetiQ (UK), VZLU (Czech Republic), VKI
(Belgium).
ARA has been deeply involved in the creation and successful
operation of this Association and has taken a management role in
many of the activities. These include:
- Chairman of the Management Board.
- Chairman of the Technical and Scientific Board.
- Work Package 1, the tasks include Communication, Standards,
Training and exchange of personnel and Business
Relations.
- Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP) Benchmark tests.
- Model Deformation Measurement benchmark tests.
- Aero-Acoustic benchmark tests.
- EWA public web site.
ARA is also taking a leading role in other activities
including:
- Strain gauge balance development.
- Security of electronic data.
- Development of remote control systems for model aerodynamic control surfaces.
Membership of this Association has demonstrated the high level of technical and management capability of ARA.
